By Ian Henman

To many individuals don't follow the path they really want to in life. Almost everyone one of those people who wish they had done something different with their career have something to shoot off about. Things like “well it probably never would have worked out”, or “I just couldn't afford to go to college” are just a few of the excuses that these people come up with. The reality is if you really wanted to make something happen, then you would make it happen. If you want something bad enough we can almost always find a way to make it happen, of course there might be some physical restrictions, such as if you wanted to play in the NBA but your only 5'1” tall. How ever I am here to say that there is nothing more satisfying then becoming successful at something you love. You need to give it your best shot, it's that cut and dry. Even if starting your own business is that thing you have always wanted to do, but you don't have the required funds to make it a reality, you can always find small business grants and loans. Think about it college students do it all the time. When I was attending university I searched for weeks for student aid, scholarships, and grants. There was just no way I was going to be able to afford the big bill I had coming in the fall on my part time wages from pumping gas. Now if you're not familiar grants are money that doesn't need to be repaid, while a loan of course does need to be repaid. The key is that if your researching loans consider the lowest interest rates you can find. So you need to use this same mentality when your researching small business grants and loans. Search for grants, and loans, of course free money is better then money you need to repay, but if you do need to get a loan ensure you're getting the best interest rate you can find.

If you are considering starting your own home business in the near future you should consider researching small business grants and loans now. The best place to start your search, as with so many things is the Internet. There are numerous sites that provide a lot of information on available small business grants and loans. Small Business Grants

By Thomas Morva

Working capital grants by commercial banks represent the most important source for financing current assets. A firm seeking small business grants is required to submit an appropriate application form. There are different types of application forms for different categories of grants. The information furnished in the application covers, inter alia, the following: the name and address of the borrower and his establishment; the details of the borrowers business; and the nature and amount of security offered.

The application form has to be supported by various ancillary statements like the financial statements and financial projections of the firm. The application is then processed by the financial institution giving grant. This primarily involves an examination of the factors like ability, integrity and experience of the borrower in the particular business. General prospects of the borrowers business, purpose of grant, and requirement of the borrower and its reasonableness is also taken into perspective.

Once the application is duly processed, it is put up for sanction to the appropriate authority. If the sanction is given by the appropriate authority along with the sanction of grant, the bank specifies the terms and conditions applicable to the grant. These usually cover the amount of loan or the maximum limit of the grant, the nature of the grant, the period for which the grant will be valid, the rate of interest applicable to the grant, the primary security to be charged, the insurance of the security, the details of collateral security, if any, to be provided, and the margin to be maintained.

It is a common banking practice to incorporate important terms and conditions on a stamped security document to be executed by the borrower. This helps the bank to create the required charge on the security offered and also obligates the borrower to observe the stipulated terms and conditions.

Do Small Business Grants Even Exist?

By Rhonda Winn

The idea of obtaining a small business grant, for many small business
owners, is great. After all, unlike a loan, grants are funds that don't
have to be repaid. Many of us have heard various sources proclaiming to
have the secret to obtaining small business grants and they may very
well have a legitimate listing of grantors (organizations or
individuals that award funds to others for a specific purpose). But if
you don't know the real deal about small business grants you may be
wasting your time and your money.

The allure of these so-called small business grants is understandable.
Small business owners are always looking for ways to minimize their
financial risk so why not try to get a grant? But there is a lot of
hype out there, especially via the Internet. This could leave grant
seekers scrambling and disillusioned. But the fact is grants do exist.
The hype comes in when people start spreading the myth that there is
this catchall fund for any business owner looking to obtain some extra
money. That is just not the case. It's not as easy as filling out an
application and you get a check in the mail. You could get turned down.
Your business may not meet the criteria. Or worse, you might have had
difficulty even finding a grantor.

First, let's take a look at what type of grants are available. In
general, a grant covers the costs for work or supplies for a given
period of time such as a grant renewable for two years. And they are
typically meant to fund acts or services that improve social
conditions, education, community or aid religious or cultural functions
in specific areas.

1. Grants to individuals usually for research or education.

2. Grants to for-profit businesses. These are not as numerous as
non-profit organizations or non-profit businesses so almost all
for-profit business grants come from government agencies. Check out
your local agencies for additional details.

There are literally billions of dollars of grant money awarded each
year. The people awarded this money have done a considerable amount of
background work. Many of the people who seek out grants, or "grant
seekers", have professional grant writers to research and write grant
proposals. Grant seekers must research companies and agencies first to
find out what they have to offer that fits the grantor's specifications.

It's important to realize that many grants that are available cannot be
awarded to small businesses because in many cases, a small business is
operating for a profit. Foundations cannot give grants to for-profit
businesses because they get a special tax exemption that renders this
illegal. Knowing that little fact will give you realistic expectations
when seeking out grant funds.

Common Grantors

  • U. S. government through a variety of agencies

  • Corporations

  • Foundations

  • Charities

Grant Seekers Awarded Funds

  • Non-profit businesses or organizations

  • Schools

  • Churches

Businesses that meet the specific criteria of the grantor in regards to location, ownership, services, or employees.

Your chances of obtaining grants for your business dramatically
increase if you have a non-profit organization. A common misconception
is that non-profit organizations don't make money but this is not the
case at all it just means that you operate solely to pay wages,
vendors, and purchase necessities. At the end of the year you should
break even. So if you have an idea that could improve the lives of
others through social works than you could possibly find a grant to
help you reach your goal.

If you have a small business and need help getting started then be
prepared for the challenges ahead. Finding grants may not be easy but
they are out there. Checking with local government agencies is the best
place to start. There are local small grants in some cities that are
available if you either operate your business in certain areas or your
business will benefit particular areas.

Whichever type of business you operate, be diligent in your search and
make sure you have read the grantor's requirement carefully. With
enough effort, you can have money for your business and reduce your own
personal risk of starting a business.

Business Grants and Loans - Meeting the Criteria

By David Gass

One of the best places to research the availability of business grants and loans is the Small Business Administration, an agency of the federal government with a mandate to help business, especially small business succeed. The Small Business Administration which has local offices in all major metropolitan areas has three different loan programs, each one designed to help various segments of the business market get access to business grants and loans.

They deliver these loans through their banking and other lending institutional partners and while they provide the money and information an individual business must apply directly to a lending institution to get business grants and loans. They suggest that you go to the meeting with the lenders well prepared, with a copy of a business plan, personal and business financial statements and projections, as well as any collateral that may be available to secure the financing.

The most popular form of business grants and loans made available through the Small Business Administration are called 7 (a) loans. These business loans are so named after the section in the Small Business Act that offers the provision of these loans. In order to be eligible for this type of business loan a business must have good character, quality management capabilities, and a good business plan. If a business meets this criteria it becomes eligible under the Act and then can apply to the bank, credit union or other lender for a business loan that is guaranteed by the Small Business Administration in the case of default or bankruptcy.

Applications for business loans and grants from the Small Business Administration are available on their website, from banks and other approved lenders, and from local Small Business Administration offices across the country. If you visit the local office an agent from the agency will be happy to provide you with information and assistance to applying for business grants and loans that are available under their auspices.

While the Small Business Administration does not have any monies to provide directly for business grants and loans they can direct businesses to a number of government agencies and departments that do provide this type of assistance. These include particular programs that offer business grants and loans to military veterans, persons with disabilities, minority groups, and special provisions for business activities related to disaster relief and faith based initiatives.

There are also special programs that offer business grants and loans to assist welfare recipients to get back into the workforce, improve the environment, and support the work of the military both at home and abroad. For a full listing of these business grants and loans visit the local office of the Small Business Administration or contact the office of business development at your nearest city hall.

Government Business Grants

By Eric Morris

Starting a business, whether home based or not, can be very difficult especially if you need the necessary cash. Raising enough funds to finance a business is an arduous undertaking for many entrepreneurs. Even if you are planning only a shoestring budget for your business, you will still need a working capital to build your inventory, purchase equipment, pay registration fees, and maybe even buy or rent a space. There are a number of ways for an entrepreneur to raise the necessary capital including personal savings, bank loans, venture capitalist and even family and friends.

One excellent option is to find an excellent government business grant. Government grants is defined as assistance in the form of cash that the federal government provides especially for individuals and businesses that are in need of financial assistance. There are over 900 grant program from 26 government grant-making agencies. The federal government is ready to provide nearly $400 billion in grants through these programs.

If you want to avail of free government business grants then you need to locate a program that provides grants to start up businesses. Some grant programs will offer free business consultation services and loans. Most states will offer grants what will be directly awarded to a business, especially one that has the potential to hire scores of people.

The government is more than willing to help out businesses especially with the economic condition that still remains volatile and unpredictable and with the need for more economic development. Despite the perception of most Americans not to look towards the government for help, the fund that the Federal government can provide remains unbelievably vast. You can avail of your share of these grants. You can look up more information about government business grants through grants.gov, the official Web site for Federal Government Grants.

Government Grants provides detailed information on Government Grants, Free Government Grants, Government Business Grants, Debt Relief Government Grants and more. Government Grants is affiliated with Federal Government Grants.

Business Grants for Women

By Rebecca Game

Many women in business find that in order to meet their business' financial needs, they turn to searching out a loan source. Business loans for women are widely available through the Small Business Administration and a variety of other sources such as banks, credit unions and other financial institutions. Loans, however, are not the only source for financing. In some instances, business grants for women are available.

Business grants for women are a wonderful option for some women in business. Grants are an excellent source of funding because grants are not repaid. The funding is provided through government resources that have been budgeted for specific needs in our national community. Anyone is open to apply, so business grants for women are available to anyone regardless of gender, race, religion, or background.

The downside of grants is that business grants for women are not widely available. Rather, business grants for women are available only to select businesses and under very strict circumstances, mostly for research or development. Technologically-focused businesses, for example, will find it much easier to qualify for a grant than a craft or retail business. Still, because the money is readily available, even if your business is retail oriented, it may be of benefit to check into business grants for women available for various resources that could assist you in your business.

According to Denouement Solutions and Grants.gov, the United States government and its government organizations offer more 1000 grants totaling more than $400 billion in grant funding every year. Only 10 percent of citizens that qualify for these grants actually apply for grants, despite the fact that many more than that would qualify for a business grant for women. Therefore, even though not every individual or business is eligible for a business grant for women, it certainly can be beneficial to check into business grants for women.

According to grants.gov, the United States government's web site and main resource for grants that are available and can be applied for, there are more than 1000 grant programs offered by the 26 Federal grant-making agencies. These programs fall into 21 different categories, as defined by the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance. While some agencies may list available grants under multiple grant categories, the Federal government lists these categories of grants as follows:

- Agriculture

- Art

- Business and Commerce

- Community Development

- Consumer Protection

- Disaster Prevention and Relief

- Education

- Employment, Labor, and Training

- Energy

- Environmental Quality

- Food and Nutrition

- Health

- Housing

- Humanities

- Information and Statistics

- Law, Justice, and Legal Service

- Natural Resources

- Regional Development

- Science and Technology

- Social Services and Income Security

- Transportation

Even though the category of Business and Commerce may be what appears to have the largest selection of resources for business grants for women, consider the other categories as well, according to where your business falls. For example, if your business is a restaurant, don't hesitate to check the Food and Nutrition category for grants currently available. If your business is a farm, check the Agriculture section.

Grants aren't available for starting or opening a new business, and they also aren't available for expanding on an existing business. However, business grants for women can offer funding for research or development of the business. Many grants may not be applicable to your particular business or needs, but there may be funds available for research, education, or other things needed for you to operate and improve your business to help you achieve business growth.

In general, when considering the options for a business grant for women, do your homework and read carefully. Look at all grants available that might be related to your particular business. Consider looking into the Business and Commerce section, of Grants.gov, as mentioned, and also look into the different categories of grant fundings. Take the time needed to read the grant qualifications carefully. With any business, check into the Regional Development category, as well as the Community Development category. Depending on your location within the United States, it's possible to qualify for a grant to economically develop certain areas, and expanding a business in one of these areas can possibly assist you in qualifying for a business grant for women.

Additionally, consider applying for an educational grant if returning to school is an option you'd like to consider. Many grants for higher education are offered each year, and not all are awarded. Knowledge is an extremely valuable business tool, and because the money is readily available for those who qualify, and educational grant is an excellent option to consider as a business grant for women.

Contact the specific government agency offering the grant for tips, information, and to ask questions before submitting your application.

Small Business Grants - Tips from the Pros
By Howard Schwartz

Every business starts with an idea or a dream. To implement this idea or to turn your dream in to reality you require finance. A grant supports the business ideas and turns the dreams of an entrepreneur in to reality.

There are many types of grants offered by the Governments and other financial institutions that include individual grants for personal necessities, business grants for starting new business, education grants for funding education and many more. Grants are always a feasible option to support existing business or financing new business in all fields. While the United States government does not offer direct grants for supporting small business there are many state development agencies, non-profit organizations, intermediary lending institutions and local government, which offer grants to expand and enhance small businesses.

Small businesses always play a significant role in the economic growth of a country and that is the reason governments are always ready to offer financial resources to facilitate small business. You can receive small business grant to start up any type of business. From carpet cleaning, photocopying, private tutoring services to day care business you name any business and these agencies have the grants for you. All U.S. citizens and residents are eligible to receive U.S. Federal Government, State Government and Private Foundation-funded grants and loans. Apart from this these grant programs do not require credit checks, collateral, security deposits or co-signers. Small business grants are easily available. Anyone who is 18 year old and thinking about going into business for himself or wanting to expand his existing business can apply for the grant. Grants varying between $500.00 to $50,000.00 can be obtained from these agencies. Usually there are larger payments for business start up costs. If you are an entrepreneur than you can use the privileges provided by the government. Small business grants are the ideal way to fulfill your dreams of becoming a business owner.

Home Business Startup Ideas That Don't Focus on Selling

If you like the idea of working from home but you don't want to sell products, you might be surprised to know that you don't necessarily have to. It's true that when you think of working from home, you might think of people who do a lot of selling. Maybe your next-door neighbor sells Avon or Mary Kay, or another type of product. Whatever it is, though, it involves having to sell something, and maybe that's something you don't want to do. How do you work at home, then, without having to sell anything?

Well, if you work at home, you are going to have to "sell" something, but it's not necessarily that you have to sell products. Instead, you can sell your skills, your services, or yourself. So yes, that requires "selling," but not in such a blatant fashion.

What are some of the jobs you might be able to do it at home that don't focus entirely on selling?

Designing websites

If you have some skill at website design, you might be surprised to know that this is a skill that's greatly in demand. Yes, you can work at home and design other people's websites. If you have even a little bit of skill at this, or if it's something you know you have a talent for that you want to develop, you can create very nice websites for clients that'll make you a decent living, too.

Writing

If you have a passion for the written word, this can be a work at home job that can make you a very good living indeed. You can write articles and market them to potential customers or clients, or you can write specifically for clients who contract you to write for them. You can write e-books to sell, you can write for sites that do revenue sharing, or any number of opportunities out there on the Internet.

Doing daycare from home

If you're a mom, you can open a daycare center in your home so that you can take care of your children yet still provide a nice income for your family. And it has the added benefit of providing playmates for your children and giving you a nice paycheck besides.

Inbound calling services

If you work from home, you can do something called "inbound calling." With this, you take orders from those who have purchased things from businesses, online shopping networks, infomercials, and so on. Sometimes this type of job also includes some basic customer service.

Bookkeeping services

If you've worked as a bookkeeper before, this is a skill you can definitely use when you work at home. Many local businesses or even online businesses need bookkeepers to help them keep track of their finances because they don't have the time or talent to do it themselves. This is ideal if you are good with numbers and are a stay-at-home mom but want to make a nice income nonetheless.

Tutoring

If you've ever been a teacher, you might just be surprised to know that an online tutor is one way you can use your previous skills. With this type of work, you tutor students who are having problems with a subject area that you are an expert in. You may be able to do this exclusively online, or you might see students in your home or travel to their homes.

Is this really "selling"?

Yes, it is, in the sense that it requires a certain level of "selling" yourself and your skills. You have to make yourself known to clients and you have to make your services desirable to them. If you're so uncomfortable with the concept of selling anything (even yourself or your services) that you think you simply can't, then work at home positions might not work out for you unless you are a work at home employee for a specific employer in a telecommuting type of situation.

If you want to work at home and have your own business, though, you're going to have to learn to "sell" yourself. This is an integral part of a having any type of work at home business. You have to make yourself known to clients and you have to make your skills appealing to them. That is simply part of what you have to do.

With that said, though, it's still not the same thing to market yourself and your services as it is to sell something like skincare products, make up, and so on. In other words, there are many options to the "direct selling" that these types of businesses require you to do; there are many other things that you can do at home that simply require the "sale" of yourself and the services you provide.
